MEALS
The pack will be providing Friday night s’mores, breakfast/lunch/dinner/dessert Saturday, and a cold Sunday breakfast before we roll out. Please make sure you bring your own camp food for Friday night dinner or get something on the way up! Coffee will be hot ALL weekend!

MED FORMS
A Med Form is REQUIRED by BSA to participate in any overnight campout for EACH attendee, not just the Scout! We must have these available for the camp staff. Please email leaders the completed copies at pack471leader@gmail.com or you can also drop paper forms off in the mailbox at 4040 Crossfield Place. The form is available on the pack website and is also attached.

ACTIVITIES
We will have a bunch of activities planned before lunch and after lunch that we will do as a pack. We will also have a fun filled night trick or treating! Scouts are encouraged to bring their costumes and a Trick-Or-Treat bag!

CAMPING
We will be staying at Campsite 6. There is limited parking in front of the site and along the street, so additional parking can be found closest at the dining hall (refer to attached map). If anyone has not had any experience with camping, please work with your den leaders to make sure you know how to set up your tent. Please let me, or your den leader, know if you need any help setting up your tent when you arrive. Campsite 6 has plenty of tent platforms (~10’x10’) or open space on the ground to pitch a tent. A packing list is attached as a helpful guide on what to bring!

YOUTH PROTECTION
If this is your first time attending BSA camping, please note there are several protections set up as part of Youth Protection. Scouts are only allowed in their families’ tents. There is an exception for the 4th and 5th graders being allowed to tent with other members of their den if they bring extra tents, but no kids are allowed in any tent with an adult that is a non-blood relative or guardian. Woodruff has both male and female youth only restrooms and single-use restrooms. Adults are not allowed in youth-only restrooms! These protections are in place to maintain a safe environment for our children.

VOLUNTEERS
Many hands make light work! We are always looking for help making the camping trip run as smoothly as possible! We need some kitchen help for the meals and families to create and run Trick-Or-Treating tables. We had some AWESOME tables last year – donut eating contest (off a string with no hands!), bobbing for apples, “ghost pong”, etc. Below is a sign-up genius link. If you are signing up for a table, let us know in the comment if you are doing a trick-or-treat candy table or an activity table (and what that activity is!)!

We will provide more details on this camping event as we get closer to the date, but we hope the entire family can join us. If you have any questions, please contact pack leaders at pack471leader@gmail.com. We look forward to seeing everyone for a fun weekend!

September 19th: Webelos Obstacle Course and Second Chance Sign Up Night!

Hello Pack 471 Families!

Our next Pack meeting is coming up on Tuesday, September 19th, and it’s a fun one! Our Webelos Den will be hosting an obstacle course for the rest of the pack; Egg Relay, Kerplunk!, Rock-Paper-Scissors War, and Water Bottle Rockets! Show up before 6:45PM for a evening of fun at Garrison Mill Elementary!

This evening is also our second chance sign-up for the pack! If you have friends, neighbors, or school buddies you think would love scouting as much as you, tell them to come along! It’s a fun meeting to introduce someone to scouting. If your scout invites a friend and they join, there’s even a Recruiter Patch they can earn and show off on their uniform.

We also have three fundraising opportunities this year: Our popcorn fundraiser is going on now – sales are only online and through the app. The bonus here is no worries about delivery or taking payment as the popcorn will be delivered and payment will be online. Our new fundraiser this year is pre-cooked pork butts through a local supplier; details to come at our October Pack meeting. Our spring fundraiser will be our Camp Cards; more info to come in Spring. The best news is we are consolidating our rewards – sell $450 in any combination of popcorn, pork butts, or camp cards, and get a free Big Trip ticket to our caving trip in May for each $450 in fundraising!

Our first camping trip of the year, Spooky-Ree, is next month! We will be camping at Woodruff (Campsite 6) October 13th to 15th. This is a fun camping event for the whole family! We will be putting on our own program this year, which means shorter lines, cheaper fees, and more fun for our scouts! Pay online at gmpack471.org

It’s an exciting year for scouting, and we’re looking forward to seeing you on the 19th!

Welcome back!

Hello Pack 471 Families:

It’s that time of year again. School has started and so has Cub Scouting! We are going to have our kickoff meeting on Tuesday, August 15th at 6:45pm at the United Methodist Church Gym. Please bring a method of payment you wish to use to pay for Scouting dues this year. We can accept cash, personal checks, or credit/debit payments through Paypal swipe.

There are several things scheduled this year that are very exciting. There are two camping trips planned for all Scouts and their families with two additional trips being offered for the Webelos and AOLs. We try to visit both Atlanta Area Council Campgrounds, Woodruff and Bert Adams, and that is this year’s current plan as well. For our big trip this year, we are trying to go to Majestic Caverns and spend the night in a cave!

Consistent with past years, we are also interested in signing up new Scouts! Please have the returning Scouts wear their red Class B uniforms both Tuesday, August 15th and Tuesday, August 22nd to school to encourage their friends to ask about Scouts. If your Scout brings a friend to the August 15th kickoff night who signs up, they will get a recruiter patch. If you have any friends, neighbors, or acquaintances who want to join or would like more information, please have them email pack471leader@gmail.com.

Finally, we will discuss our largest fund raiser, Popcorn at this meeting. This fundraiser keeps our dues low, and we are looking for a Popcorn Chair if you are looking for a way to volunteer. We can never have enough volunteers! See everyone on the 15th!
